Heath Rivas

Posted

Heath Rivas was born April 8, 1990, to Jeff and Tanya Rivas, along with big brother Seth. He arrived loud and in charge, exactly how he lived his life every day. He had a tremendous love for the mountains and the outdoors; he had a tremendous love for his parents and his brother. Heath was adventurous and a complete daredevil. He and his brother, Seth, always seemed to be jumping their BMX bikes off of something (sometimes complete rooftops). His friends and family watched him snowboard, skateboard, hunt, fish, enjoy time with family and friends, light a campfire, dance with his grandma in her wheelchair, learn how to garden with grandparents, and, most recently, skydiving. He always gave his cousins and friends an opportunity to give whatever new action sport he was doing a try. Heath empowered others and challenged them to be courageous, creative and brave. Heath “wore many hats” and made so many people chuckle when he laughed, when he shared stories from his adventures and especially when he quoted lines from sitcoms or movies. Heath started running heavy equipment from the age of 6 and became an amazing operator, honoring his family with his skills and abilities. He was a part of the family business right out of high school and took pride in his work. He had such a deep love for animals, especially Mary Mo and Max. He also had an absolute deep love for all of his family (extended included), with an extra special place in his heart for his niece, Serenity. Their bond was very special and amazing for the family to watch when they were together. Heath also welcomed his sister-in-law, Melissa Rivas, with open arms. In the last three years Heath suffered great losses with his grandparents Lester and Lila Rivas, Marge McRae, and Uncle Anthony Rivas. There is no doubt that Heath would challenge you to honor him by doing something you’ve never done before, do something you love to do but haven’t had time for in a while, and keep him in your heart while doing it. Have that extra bowl of green or red chili (red was Heath’s favorite), stay an hour longer to fish or call that loved one that you see needing support. “Fish on Heath Rivas ... fish on.” There will be a celebration of life for Heath on Oct. 12, 2024, at noon at 801 Petitt’s Circle in Pagosa Springs. It will be a potluck, so bring a dish to share, BYOB, a chair and a “Heath story” to share. We look forward to seeing you.
