Tom Reynolds Jr., age 99, a retired firefighter and lieutenant for the city Abilene, Texas, and a skilled log home builder, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Valley Nursing Center in Alexander County. He was born on Tuesday, May 5, 1925, in Anson Jones County, Texas.

A proud veteran who served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a landing craft machine gunner, Tom dedicated his life to serving and protecting others both in the military and as a firefighter. His bravery and commitment will always be remembered by those who knew him. Aside from his distinguished career, Tom will be fondly remembered as a good friend and neighbor to many. His kind and generous nature touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.

In addition to his military and professional accomplishments, Tom had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him joy throughout his life. From gardening to farming, hunting to fishing, he found solace in nature’s beauty. He was also known for his talents as a poet, musician, and singer, showcasing his creativity and passion for the arts.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Berry Reynolds and Annie Era McCoy Reynolds; his wife, Bessie Sneed Reynolds; daughter Bonnie Lou Evan; and siblings Lenard Reynolds, Goldie Taylor, Era Petkins and Sylvia Melton.

He is survived by his children: Connie Reynolds, of Taylorsville, N.C.; Johnny Reynolds (Doris), of Taylorsville, N.C.; Sharon Ann Reynolds (Jack Mackey), of Ignacio, Colo.; Dale Reynolds (Carla), of Humboldt, Tenn.; Jewel Meadows, of Ignacio, Colo.; along with 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members who will cherish his memory forever.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Tom Reynolds Jr.’s legacy will live on through the love he shared with his family, friends and community. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a significant impact on all whose lives he touched.
