Rolan Caler passed away on June 26, 2024. He was born in Denver, Colo., on April 4, 1960, to Frank and Nyla Caler. He is the eldest of five siblings; below him are one brother and three sisters.

At a young age, his family moved to Colorado Springs, where he spent the remainder of his childhood. He grew up working in his dad’s Honda dealership, where he loved building, riding, and racing motorcycles. Before the age of 21, Rolan spent three summers commercial fishing in Alaska and driving semi-trucks across the country. He later attended welding school in Tulsa, Okla., and welded on a nuclear power plant in Glen Rose, Texas.

On Nov. 6, 1981, he married his soulmate, Melinda, in Enid, Okla. They began their life together in Colorado Springs. In 1983, they started their family. They have five sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren.

Rolan acquired his insurance and securities license and worked in the people business for the next several years. His younger sister, Trela, influenced him to also acquire his real estate license, and make a change and move to Pagosa Springs.

Rolan and his family settled in Pagosa Springs in the summer of 1998. He loved being a dad, watching his children in school activities and sporting events. Rolan also enjoyed the outdoors and spent lots of time riding horseback in the high country of the San Juan Mountains.

Rolan led a spiritual and faith-filled life and raised his family accordingly. He is best known for his outgoing personality, entrepreneurial spirit, strong convictions and knowing presence.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Melinda; their six children: Justin (Meggie), Jeremy (Cheyenne), Jeryd (Adriana), Julian (Chelsea), Jordan (Kalie) and Jerica, along with his seven grandchildren (all of Pagosa Springs, Colo.); and his siblings, Lyndall Caler, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Trela Caler and Karleen Rudolph, of San Francisco, Calif., and Marlita Pera, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and many more family members and friends.

The family will be holding a memorial service for Rolan on Sunday, July 21, at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds at 3 p.m.
