‘A Timeless Tradition’: 73rd annual Archuleta County Fair Aug. 1-4

The 73rd annual Archuleta County Fair is Aug. 1-4, with the event set to feature a number of timeless traditions.

The fair will be open at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds, located at 344 U.S. 84, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Admission to the fair is free, though tickets must be purchased for some events.

Thursday’s events will feature a number of 4-H shows, including goats, alpacas, poultry and swine.

Friday’s events will again include 4-H’ers showing their animals, as well as shows by Wildman Phil and his exotic animals; the annual pie-eating contest; the Bares, Broncs ‘n Bulls Rodeo and Tough Enough to Wear Pink event; and more.

Saturday will feature the 4-H showmanship clinic, horseshoe pitching, Wildman Phil, the 4-H Master Showmanship competition, an open rodeo, the perennially popular 4-H Chuckwagon Dinner and more.

Several awards will also be handed out Saturday, including Homemaker of the Year, the fair honorees and royalty, and the Conservationist of the Year. 

The event will draw to a close at 2 p.m. on Sunday following events such as the 4-H parent/Master Showmanship Contest, Kids’ Rodeo and more.

The Exhibit Hall, kids games, educational and informational displays, a mechanical bull and more will be open each day of the fair.

Live music at this year’s fair will include a concert by Ricochet at 8 p.m. on Thursday, live music and dancing to the Bo DePena Band at 9 p.m. on Friday, live music by the San Juan Mountain Boys at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and live music and dancing to Tylor Brandon on Saturday.
