Local growers invited to help food pantries

Posted

Calling all backyard growers, dome growers and community growers: We are thrilled to invite you to contribute fresh produce donations to support the seven local food pantries in Archuleta County.

Your harvest can make a real difference, and we’re here to help you find the perfect drop-off location. Healthy Archuleta offers two convenient spots for drop-offs.

The first location is at the Community United Methodist Church (CUMC) Food Pantry downtown on Lewis Street, where we have a cooler available during its open hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The second location is at the Food Distribution Center (FDC) warehouse next to Terry’s Ace Hardware, open on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Friday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Please call (970)585-6011 if you plan to drop off produce at the FDC and/or have any questions about the produce donation efforts.

Your hard work is much appreciated, and your fresh produce donations in Archuleta County will make a real difference for those who may not have a green thumb or the space to grow their own garden.

Let’s come together to ensure that everyone in our community can enjoy fresh, healthy produce this season.

Upcoming talks

Can we talk? About gardening ,of course, here in Pagosa Springs. What do you find most interesting about gardening in the Rockies?

Come to the Pagosa Springs Community Garden and share your experiences and perhaps learn something new about gardening. Whether you grow in raised beds, covered hoop houses or share a bed in a community garden, you’ll enjoy engaging conversations centered around this rewarding activity.

These sessions are hosted by Healthy Archuleta with the aim of reaching out and sharing knowledge about the benefits of growing fruits and vegetables that we can share with our friends, families and our Pagosa community.

Join us on the following Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Pagosa Springs Community Garden located along the San Juan Riverwalk (next to the domes) near U.S. 160 and 5th Street. Bring your coffee or morning beverage of choice.

Our upcoming meetings are: Aug. 10 and 24, and Sept. 7 and 21. See you there.
