Volunteers needed for upcoming events

Posted

There are a number of community events coming up.

It’s one thing to attend a function, but could you spare some time to volunteer? So many organizations produce wonderful events benefiting the community and offering much-need services. These organizations provide services and amenities that perhaps you or your family partake of.

A great way to say thank you for their services or for hosting the event is to volunteer.

Volunteering is not just for adults. There are often jobs for youth that are not difficult but engage them and teach them the value of community involvement.

Here are some of the upcoming events to review.

On July 27, the Spanish Fiesta will be held at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds. The Spanish Fiesta is produced under the Archuleta Seniors Inc. nonprofit organization. This year, the Spanish Fiesta team have engaged our youth by bringing back the royalty court. These young people are busy fundraising for the event and performing community service work. There are many tasks to perform at this event, including setup, breakdown, bar service, ticket sales, decorating and much more.

There is also much to enjoy that day from 2 to 10 p.m. Your ticket would be for admission to food vendors, music, craft vendors and, of course, the big dance in the evening featuring Darren Cordova Y Calor.

Tickets may be purchased at https://givebutter.com/SpanishFiesta2024. Volunteer a little and then partake in the festivities.

The week following the Spanish Fiesta, the Archuleta County Fair takes place, Aug. 1-4. Many volunteers are needed for this multiday event.

If you volunteer for any aspect of the fair, a free ticket to an event of your choice is offered for every shift you work. Help is needed operating the shuttle, kids’ games, ticketing, directing people, parking and so much more. This event is a great way to be a part of the community, and then round up the family and enjoy an Archuleta County tradition.

This year’s fair will be even bigger, so help is definitely needed. New to the fair this year will be a Thursday night concert featuring the county/western band Ricochet. Tickets are available now at https://givebutter.com/ricochet.

There are four days of activities to enjoy with one of the highlights being the 4-H Livestock Show and Chuckwagon on Aug. 3. Visit www.archuletacountyfair.org for more information on the fair, how to volunteer or how to sponsor the event.

For all you animal lovers, the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs will be celebrating its 40th anniversary of supporting animal needs here in Archuleta County.

This milestone will be celebrated with a luau event on Aug. 10. The festivities include dinner and a cash bar. Luau dancers and Tahitian drumming will add to the evening’s festivities. There are a number of activities you could help out with in advance of the event. Spend a few hours assisting in setting up the event and then join in the fun the night of the event.

For more information on how you can help, contact the Humane Society at (970) 264-5549 or, for tickets, visit https://pagosahumane.org/event/40th-anniversary-luau/.

These are just a few of the upcoming events in Pagosa Springs that you or your family could get involved in. Many volunteering opportunities also come with event benefits, so think about contributing to the success of the event with more than just attending. If you are interested in helping out an organization but don’t know how to get started, please call the Chamber and we can likely connect you with an organization that supports your passion to help.
