Runway for Rise set to return Oct. 5

Posted

Last year at the 2023 Runway for Rise, the Rotarians fashioned an incredible recycled creation using wire tomato cages, duct tape and a wedding dress purchased at a local thrift shop. The addition of furry snow boots repurposed from an old rug resulted in a delightful snow bunny costume that was modeled with an attitude by Cindi Galabota and was a huge crowd favorite.

As a small town, Pagosa Springs relies on volunteers to provide many services that would go unaddressed without their “free labor.”

For example, all teams providing their creativity to benefit domestic violence victims at this event are comprised of volunteers.

The Rotary team notes they “support our community through a variety of projects, such as providing scholarships for graduating high school seniors, offering teacher mini-grants, sponsoring a Little League team, and supporting local nonprofits like Rise Above Violence.”

In 2023, volunteers with Rise Above Violence provided more than 2,500 hours in advocacy, awareness and fundraising. While volunteering offers vital help to those in need, the Mayo Clinic and Harvard Health agree that the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer.
