Despite fickle weather, 19th Hole Concerts raise $10,000 for Archuleta nonprofits

This summer’s 19th Hole Concerts at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club raised $10,000 for four Archuleta County nonprofits, with each nonprofit receiving a grant for $2,500.

The recipient organizations are Ruby M. Sisson Library Foundation, Cornerstone Project, San Juan Backcountry Horsemen, and Early Childhood Council of Archuleta County.

The 19th Hole Concerts featured different local music talent at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club on Thursday evenings in June, with one concert re-scheduled for July due to inclement weather and another canceled, also due to weather. The cover charge for each concert was $10, and all proceeds were pooled and distributed evenly to the four selected nonprofits.

“After two record-breaking concerts, with attendance surpassing 300, we had great momentum going into the next two concerts with hopes of making it another record-breaking year,” said Tracy Pope, deputy director for the Community Foundation. “However, nature had other plans and the next two concerts had to be postponed or canceled due to concerns for the safety of attendees and musicians.”

With only three concerts to raise funds and awareness for the four selected nonprofits, it seemed the parade had indeed been rained on. However, the community refused to let that happen. With several donations from anonymous community members, and additional donations from concert goers at the rescheduled July concert, the total rose to $10,000 in donations. The makeup concert also included a presentation from the San Juan Backcountry Horsemen and the Early Childhood Council of Archuleta County, who spoke to a crowd of approximately 100 people.

“Our Archuleta Committee did a great job pivoting, and Pagosa Springs Golf Club was gracious about rescheduling a concert for July,” added Pope. “The musicians were also incredibly supportive.”

Corporate sponsors cover event expenses, allowing all proceeds collected at the door to be granted directly to the nonprofits.
