UUs to ponder the religious experience

What is “the religious experience” for Unitarian Universalists (UUs)?

One could justifiably consider that an impossible question to answer given that our uniqueness lies in our lack of an accepted creed and our acceptance of a “living tradition” that allows for change as the times change.

1984 marked a time of sea change for Unitarian Universalism as UU leaders came together and acknowledged that the sources of our faith are indeed varied and documented six sources of inspiration drawn from areas as diverse as science, poetry, scripture, words of prophetic persons and personal experience.

This Sunday we will stream the Rev. Angela Herrera, senior minister of First Unitarian of Albuquerque, as she hones in on the sixth source of inspiration, “Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder ...,” and then widens her search to include transcendentalism, nature and the cosmos in an effort to get at what UUs might identify as a religious experience.

We invite you to join us to see if your religious experience is included in her line up.

Our fellowship offers each individual support in our unique spiritual path and an opportunity to participate in positive social and environmental action. We welcome diversity and invite everyone to share in our faith community.
