Shayda Valdez is a 2024 Pagosa Springs High School (PSHS) graduate and also the recipient of this year’s Trista Nauman Scholarship worth $5,000 toward continuing education in career and technical education programs or schooling.
Valdez is involved in Skills USA, president of PSHS Skills USA Team, OSHA certified, NCCER certified in construction, involved in the teacher housing container project at the high school, a member of National Honors Society, attended welding competitions in Durango, FFA president, 4-H vice president of the Rocky Mountain Riders club, first aid certified, built a four-wheeler trailer for the Build Pagosa auction in May, and much more.
Valdez will continue her education at Otero in La Junta, Colo. and will be studying livestock management, welding, construction and will also be a member of its rodeo team.
