Reverent Rhythms Dance Company to bring ‘Little Red’ to Pagosa Springs

Posted

Pagosa Springs Dance Academy will be hosting the professional dance company Reverent Rhythms in Pagosa Springs June 2-5.

Reverent Rhythms will be working with local dance students in a three-day master class intensive, then will culminate its time in Pagosa by presenting their traveling show “Little Red” along with the local students on Wednesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Pagosa Bible Church.

“Little Red” tells an untraditional version of “Little Red Riding Hood” interwoven with a story of human trafficking.

In this version, Little Red is given her red cloak as a symbol of her identity, inheritance and heritage. She is warned of the evils of the world and told to be careful to protect her cloak so that it may not be taken from her. She is accompanied by her very best friends, the woodland creatures, as she ventures off to explore the world. It is not long before she encounters the wolf and his pack. They are ready to pounce, take her, trade her and destroy her for their own pleasure and profit. Little Red is taken, her cloak is stripped from her and her innocence stolen. It seems that she is forgotten until the one who gave her her cloak comes to her rescue. They break down every wall and climb every mountain until she is found, rescued and her identity is restored. Little Red is then able to rescue and empower others just like her.

All proceeds from this event will benefit the Reverent Rhythms’ nonprofit organization. Reverent Rhythms is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the state of Colorado.

Reverent Rhythms has a professional touring dance company, a school of the arts, community outreach programs and overseas missions. Through its overseas missions, it works directly with victims of human trafficking through dance therapy. It has a variety of other programs that work with at risk and vulnerable demographics through dance.
