No injuries reported following explosion, structure fire

Pagosa Fire Protection District (PFPD) personnel responded to a structure fire early in the morning of July 6 after an explosion was heard in the area.

According to Deputy Chief Karn Macht, no injuries were reported and the occupants were out of the house prior to the PFPD’s arrival.

Macht reported the PFPD was paged out to an explosion heard in the area of Beaver Circle and Lake Forest Circle by Archuleta County Combined Dispatch at approximately 3:32 a.m.

Engine 91 responded, arriving at approximately 3:38 a.m., he relayed, “and confirmed a structure fire on the 1200 block of Lake Forest Circle.”

Macht reported that when command was established, the exterior of the garage was approximately 30 percent involved and heading toward the interior of the garage, and two pickup trucks and multiple ATVs were fully involved.

He explained fire attack was made through the lower floor of the split-level house and the fire was declared controlled at about 6 a.m.

He added there was no extension of the fire into the main house.

Macht noted the fire is currently being investigated by PFPD and Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
