May sales tax revenue up over 4 percent compared to 2023

May sales tax collections are up more than 4 percent compared to last year’s figures, according to reports from Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton.

The May sales tax report from Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,433,903.48, with $716,094.88 going to the town and $717,808.60 going to the county.

May sales tax revenues are 4.17 percent, or $57,392.09, higher than May 2023, according to the report.

Sales tax collections have been up every month so far this year in the monthly comparisons to 2023.

According to the report, categories that are up in comparison to May 2023 include:

• Manufacturing at 10.88 percent, or $5,878.88.

• Retail trade at 7.07 percent, or $53,817.62.

• Information at .5 percent, or $120.59.

• Finance and insurance at 70.58 percent, or $640.80.

• Real Estate and rental and leasing at .04 percent, or $9.16.

• Accommodation and food services at 4.42 percent, or $9,983.21.

• Other services (except public administration) at 20.92 percent, or $4,874.79.

According to the report, the categories that are down in comparison to May 2023 include:

• Construction at 24.88 percent, or $9,487.54.

• Professional, scientific and technical services at 30.14 percent, or $6,508.75.

• Miscellaneous at .95 percent, or $1,936.67.
