The La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) Board of Directors has announced the cancellation of the 2024 director elections for two director districts, while the elections for Districts 1 and 4 will proceed as planned.

District 1 covers Archuleta County.

In accordance with LPEA bylaws, if only one candidate is nominated for a district, the election may be canceled, and the candidate is declared elected by resolution. This year, no challengers were nominated for Districts 2 or 3.

Therefore, for District 2, incumbent Kohler McInnis will be declared re-elected as of Sept. 18. For District 3, incumbent Ted Compton will be declared re-elected as of Sept. 18.

In District 1, the qualified candidates are Dusty Mars and Kirsten Skeehan.

In District 4, the qualified candidates are Tim Wheeler and John Purser.

Ballots for the 2024 election were mailed out the week of Aug. 12 to members in Districts 1 and 4. Completed ballots must be received by 4 p.m. on Sept. 17.

Ballots may be returned through the following methods:

• By mail: Utilize the prepaid envelope included with the mailed ballot.

• By drop-off: In Pagosa Springs, ballots can be dropped off at the  LPEA Office Pagosa Springs at 603 S. 8th Street or the Archuleta County Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 449 San Juan St.
