Jon Kent Ross

Jon Kent Ross was born on Aug. 27, 1936, in Price, Utah, the son of John Franklin and Dorothy E Ross. He passed away on May 2, 2024.

He spent his childhood and early years in Green River, Utah, where he met and married Georgie N. Hatch on June 11, 1955. In 1968 they moved to Tiffany, Colo., where they were involved in ranching and farming. Later they moved to Pagosa Springs, Colo., where they finished raising their nine children. Around 2001 they moved to Bayfield, Colo.

Jon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a dedicated and faithful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family passionately. He was a natural horseman and loved riding, roping, camping and hunting in the Book Cliffs of Utah and the San Juans of Colorado. He taught his children to love work, to be self-sufficient, and take care of themselves, their families and each other. He was a boot and saddle maker and owned and operated Ross Boot and Saddle for 47 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Georgie N. Ross; his parents, Frank and Dorothy Ross; a brother, Jack Ross; two sons, Dirk Ross and Colt Ross; and four sons-in-law: Ray Wells, Quinn Haddock, Todd Miller and Gene Carlson. He is survived by daughters Tandra Haddock, of Provo, Utah, and Kheta Wells, of Mineral Point, Mo.; five sons: Braden (Chris) Ross, of Midland, Texas, Kirby (Tammi) Ross, of Franktown, Colo., Troy (Loretta) Ross, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Cody (Dawn) Ross, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Redo (Barb) Ross, of Bayfield, Colo.; two daughters-in-law: Crystal Ross, of Ignacio, Colo., and Jamie Carlson, of Loveland, Colo.; sister Dorothy Ann Carter, of Roosevelt, Utah; brother Clark (Jean Henry) Ross, of Fayetteville; 44 grandchildren; and 121 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bayfield, Colo., on May 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. with the viewing at 9:30 a.m. 

Interment will follow at the Pine River Cemetery.
