The Vista Lake Community Garden will host an event featuring guest speaker Jenifer Doane on Saturday, June 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Learn about Colorado native bees and their importance for a healthy ecosystem.

The event will take place in the Vista Lake Garden near the gazebo in front of the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association offices at 230 Port Ave. Families are encouraged to attend. Topics include comparing various bee species, discussing support for healthy bee populations, and building a small native bee house.

Doane is a certified interpretive guide. Her love for bees extends to both honeybees and Colorado native bees. When she is not tending her beehives, she is often found documenting native bees for the Colorado Native Bee Watch.

There will also be two crafts for the kids. One is to make a bee hotel from a recycled can, rolled paper and sticks. The other will be to create a paper bee. Supplies are limited. We hope to see you there. Let’s bee interested and bee crafty.
