This summer, the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts will be filled with the timeless melodies of Carole King as Thingamajig Theatre Company presents its second offering of the 2024 rep season, “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” 

This celebrated production, which has captivated audiences on Broadway, is set to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience in Pagosa Springs through the end of August.

“Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” chronicles the inspiring true story of King’s meteoric rise to fame. From her humble beginnings as a teenage songwriter to becoming one of the most iconic voices in pop music, King’s journey is a testament to her talent and resilience. 

The musical features some of her greatest hits, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Natural Woman,” and “I Feel the Earth Move,” each song resonating with fans of all ages.

Debuting on Broadway in January 2014, “Beautiful” ran for more than five years, earning widespread acclaim and numerous accolades, including two Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Its success is evidence of the show’s powerful storytelling and the enduring appeal of King’s music.

Thingamajig Theatre Company’s production boasts a stellar cast that brings these beloved characters to life. 

Margot Grom stars as Carole King, delivering a performance that captures the singer’s strength, vulnerability, and unmatched talent. Justin Autz portrays Gerry Goffin, King’s former partner and collaborator, with a nuanced performance that highlights the complexities of their relationship. Cassandra Brooks and Keenan Pasqua play the dynamic duo of Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, infusing their roles with charm and charisma.

Under the direction and choreography of Pagosa favorite Melissa Firlit, this production promises to be a visual and emotional delight. Firlit’s creative vision ensures that each scene is carefully crafted, offering a fresh and engaging perspective on this classic story.

Additionally, Dominic Giorlami’s music direction brings out the best in the cast, making each note resonate with precision.
