What We Did Today
Today, air resources from the Colorado National Guard (CONG) and the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), and ground teams conducted secondary assessments in areas south of Highway 160.
While the teams' primary focus was locating and checking on residents who might still need assistance, they also assessed agricultural needs, including concerns related to livestock. That information was shared with the Colorado State University (CSU) Extension Office to help identify and address the needs of our agricultural community.
If you have livestock-related needs resulting from the flooding, please contact CSU Extension Agent Cindi Galabota by text at 970-903-9860.
What We're Doing Tomorrow
Tomorrow will be the final day of air operations by the Colorado National Guard.
As search and rescue operations wind down, teams are shifting their focus to damage assessments throughout Archuleta County.
By the end of tomorrow, our goal is to have completed damage assessments of all properties throughout the County.
The information gathered is being shared with state officials and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These assessments will help officials understand the full extent of the disaster and determine what assistance and resources may be needed for recovery.
Disaster Assistance Center Now Open
The Disaster Assistance Center opened today to help residents affected by the recent flooding connect with recovery resources and services.
Dates: November 5–8, 2026
Hours: 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily
Location: 538 Village Drive
The center provides an opportunity for residents to connect with organizations offering assistance, learn about available resources, and get information about the recovery process.
Whether you experienced damage to your home, lost personal belongings, or need help finding temporary housing or other essential services, we encourage you to visit the center and learn what resources may be available.
You can also call 211 to connect with a resource navigator who can help identify available services and assistance programs.
Important Reminder: Evacuate While Resources Are Still Available
If you are still in an area where roads have been destroyed or access is severely limited, we strongly encourage you to evacuate now.
The Colorado National Guard and other outside agencies have provided tremendous assistance during this disaster, but these resources are temporary. Tomorrow is the last scheduled day for Colorado National Guard air operations.
Once these resources leave, our ability to reach isolated residents will be extremely limited. We may not have the personnel, equipment, or aircraft available to assist with evacuations, medical emergencies, or deliveries of food, drinking water, medications, and other essential supplies.
Some damaged roads may not be repaired until spring. With winter approaching, residents who choose to remain could face months without reliable access.
We understand how difficult it is to leave your home, property, and animals. We know that many residents have spent their lives building what they have, and leaving it behind, even temporarily, is not an easy decision.
However, please do not wait until you have an emergency to ask for help. By then, we may not be able to reach you.
There are resources available to help displaced residents with temporary housing and other essential services. We encourage you to take advantage of those resources now, while transportation assistance may still be available.
If you need assistance evacuating, contact dispatch at 970-731-2160. For emergencies, call 911.
Recovery Is a Community Effort
Archuleta County is strong and resilient because our neighbors pull together when times get hard. We have seen that spirit every day throughout this disaster, from first responders working long hours to volunteers, local businesses, and neighbors helping neighbors.
As our response operations begin transitioning toward recovery, we know there is still a long road ahead. Roads will need to be rebuilt, homes and properties repaired, and lives put back together. That work will take time, patience, and cooperation.
But we will get through this together.
Right now, our priority remains your safety. Please make decisions that will keep you and your family safe in the days and months ahead.
Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and support.
