Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in-person services are on the first and third Sundays of the month. This Sunday, join our fellowship and service leaders Michael Demchak and Pauline Benetti as we explore the universe through the lens of the James Webb Telescope and through the eyes of a poet.
The images that recently returned to earth from the James Webb Telescope have been blockbusters, among their revelations birth and death on an immense scale. Two of the images focus on nebulas, huge clouds of dust and gas within which stars are sometimes born, and another analyzes a region known as Stephan’s Quintet, a frightening corner of the cosmos where five galaxies are locked in an ultimately fatal dance. These must be seen to be believed.
Demchak will do just that with a slide show of images during the Sunday service of Aug. 7. But it’s not enough to just look and be amazed. Pursuing our search for meaning, Benetti will represent the poet’s interpretation of what we have seen through the work of Chet Raymo in his “The Soul of the Night — An Astronomical Pilgrimage.”
Depending on the current recommendations concerning COVID, please be prepared to wear a well-fitting mask if deemed necessary while in the building. Social distancing will be encouraged and, to that end, the maximum capacity of the fellowship has been reduced to 25, a very good reason for arriving a few minutes early.
