Luis Albert Rivas Sr.

Luis Albert Rivas Sr. passed away on Sept. 1 at the age of 72 at Mercy Medical Hospital in Jamesville, Wis. Luis was born on March 2, 1945, to Amanda Stollsteimer Rivas and Ernesto Rivas Sr. in Durango, Colo.

Albert was married to his first wife, Josie Archuleta Rivas. From their marriage, they had seven children: Thelma (Don) Valdez; Patricia Candelaria; Rudy (Luz) Candelaria; Genevieve Rivas; Luis (Christine) Rivas Jr.; and Ernie Rivas and Daniel (Antoinette) Rivas.

Albert worked at the local sawmill in Pagosa Springs, Glen Gambles’ store and Archuleta Housing. He was known as a prankster and loved all of his family very much. Albert had 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Later in life, Albert met Clair Caban, who was his nurse, and married her. They started a new life together and traveled. Albert is survived by all of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his wife and siblings Lala (Jim) Willingham, Ernesto (Lisa) Rivas Jr., Freddy (Paulene) Rivas, Joseph (Wanda) Rivas Sr., Sharon Willson, Tony (Rene) Rivas, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by both his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Rosary will take place Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Funeral will take place Sept. 22 at 9:50 a.m. at the same location with burial following at Hilltop Cemetery.
