Special to The PREVIEW

It’s Derby time. Mark your calendar for the premier event of the season, the Pagosa Rotary Club’s Kentucky Derby Party from 2 to 6 p.m. on May 6.

The location of this year’s event is the prestigious Keyah Grande Lodge west of Pagosa Springs on U.S. 160. It’s the perfect location for an afternoon of great food and fun with breathtaking views and an elegant atmosphere.

Called “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” the running of the Kentucky Derby will be simulcast live from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Party-goers will have the chance to bet on their favorite horse and cheer them on across the finish line while sipping on mint juleps, enjoying a delicious buffet and taking in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

There will be live music, prizes for women’s and men’s best hat contest, cash bar and buffet, all for only $40 per person. Tickets can be purchased from any Rotarian or at Exit Realty or Old West Press.

Profits from the Kentucky Derby Party are spread throughout the community in the form of scholarships, food-filled backpacks for youth needing supplemental meals, dictionaries for school students and awards to encourage our youth leaders.

Support these community projects and have a fun-filled afternoon with your friends and neighbors at the Pagosa Rotary Kentucky Derby Party. Buy your tickets today as there are only a limited number of tickets available.
