The warm weather we enjoyed in February has started many gardeners thinking about spring and the gardening season ahead. It is still too early to be working the garden and even too early to start most seedlings indoors, but the one thing you can do is a soil test.
In the home garden, soil testing is valuable to establish a base line on soil limitations related to pH, salt levels and the potential need for fertilizers. Routine soil tests check for the conditions plants need to grow such as the amount of fertilizer nutrients, but do not check for foreign soil contaminants such as petroleum products or pesticides.
