Columbine Ranger District fire crews will be preparing control lines this summer for upcoming prescribed burns this fall in the Yellow Jacket and the First Notch areas of the San Juan National Forest between Pagosa Springs and Bayfield.

The summer work includes widening past control lines that have become overgrown. Control lines are used to safely keep burning operations within predetermined boundaries.

Burning operations in the area may begin as early as late August and may continue through October 2015, weather permitting.
