Mark Trail sentenced in horse shooting, standoff

Posted

Mark Franklin Trail was sentenced to seven years in prison and community corrections Wednesday afternoon following convictions in two cases from 2012.

Several people spoke both against and in favor of Trail at the hearing, and Trail spoke in his own defense before 6th Judicial District Judge Greg Lyman handed down the sentence.

Both cases stemmed from incidents that occurred in 2012.

In May 2012, charges were filed against Trail relating to the death of his neighbor’s horse in Aspen Springs.

After his arrest, Trail was released on a felony bond. Then, on Sept. 4, 2012, Trail was pulled over while driving to court for the animal charges, and a 26-hour standoff ensued.
