Empty Bowls feeds our souls

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger.

For six years, Pagosa Springs Elementary School has kicked off the local Empty Bowls effort with World Food Day on Oct.16, when the production of the bowls gets underway. Students, craftspeople, artisans and community members come together to create handcrafted bowls in an effort to end hunger.

Statistics from the Feeding America website indicate that:

• “In 2013, 49.1 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 33.3 million adults and 15.8 million children.

• “In 2013, 14 percent of households (17.5 million households) were food insecure.

• “In 2013, 6 percent of households (6.8 million households) experienced very low food security.
