Personnel from the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a Monday-night incident of assault that resulted in a stab wound.

Detective Jacob Beach, with the ACSO, reported that law enforcement was called out to the incident at 9:40 p.m. Monday night.

According to Beach, an unidentified man who lives in the Beaver Meadows area (near the Archuleta-La Plata county line), gave a ride to another unidentified male from the Beaver Meadows area to the area of Chimney Rock, where an assault took place.

During that assault, the driver received lacerations to his head and hands, Beach reported, while the passenger received one stab wound to his right chest under his arm. A second passenger, an unidentified woman who was reported as being seven months pregnant, was not injured.

The passenger receiving the stab wound was stabilized at Pagosa Springs Medical Center before being transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he had surgery Tuesday, Beach reported.

The ACSO declined to name the individuals involved at this time pending further investigation.
