Law enforcement investigating assault, stabbing

Personnel from the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office are investigating a Monday-night incident of assault that resulted in a stab wound.

According to Detective Jacob Beach with the ACSO, law enforcement was called out to the incident at 9:40 p.m. Monday night.

According to Beach, a man who lives in the Beaver Meadows area (near the Archuleta-La Plata county line), gave a ride to another male from the Beaver Meadows area to the area of Chimney Rock, where an assault took place.

During that assault, the driver received lacerations to his head and hands, Beach reported, while the passenger received one stab wound to his right chest under his arm. A second passenger, a woman who was reported as being seven months pregnant, was not injured.

The passenger receiving the stab would was stabilized at Pagosa Springs Medical Center before being transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he is awaiting surgery, Beach reported at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
