Sales tax collections up significantly for March

When the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners and the Pagosa Springs Town Council met on March 9 to discuss a new 1-percent sales tax increase, Councilor David Schanzenbaker said, “We have healthy revenues. We have had increasing revenues for the last several years, so we’re in a much different financial situation than the county. Adding an extra tax at this point seems a little premature.”

Last week’s sales tax report from LeeAnn Martin with the Archuleta County finance department seemed to corroborate Schanzenbaker’s assessment: March 2014 sales tax revenue received in May totaled $586,754.22, an increase of $54,533.38 or 10.25 percent over March 2013.
