Graduation is a time of great excitement and anticipation. It can also bring on anxiety, with youth facing greater independence and responsibility.

Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program and Dragon Youth Project have put together the “Real Talk” workshop to help prepare graduating seniors for some of the decisions they will face when they are in college or living on their own.

The workshop for seniors will be held Wednesdays, May 7 and 14, at 6 p.m. at the Pagosa Springs Youth Center. The single workshop is being offered at two different times to ensure that seniors can find an evening to attend during their busy pre-graduation schedule.

As a form of prevention and supporting youth in making healthy decisions for their futures, the workshop will include topics such as drug use, healthy sexuality, sexual assault and dating violence prevention, binge drinking, sexually transmitted diseases and testing. Seniors will learn more about these topics to help them make choices that will keep them safe and healthy.

College leaders will meet with seniors in small groups to answer their questions and discuss what life is really like after high school. Parents are welcome to attend the workshop and encouraged to discuss these topics further with their children.

This informative evening will help to better prepare seniors for college life or life on their own.
