This Saturday, the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office is taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, sponsored in part by the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration and the Colorado attorney general’s office.

The aim of the event is to collect prescription or over-the-counter medication that is no longer needed or expired in order to property dispose of the substances and remove them from the streets to combat prescription drug abuse.

This year’s local collection event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, located in the courthouse. Medications accepted by ACSO personnel during the local collection event will be picked up by the DEA for proper disposal.

Medications will be accepted reglardless of type or container.
