Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District wants to assure its customers the water the district provides is safe to drink and meets all drinking water standards.

The moldy or musty smell and/or taste that customers might experience at this time, or over the next few days, is a result of the condition of the water in the San Juan River as the district has recently treated water in the San Juan Treatment Plant from that source.

PAWSD does not have a way to remove the taste and odor from the water, but customers can be assured the drinking water meets or exceeds all state and federal regulations.  District officials hope this condition will soon pass but, with the recent wildfires, the condition of the river water changes significantly from day to day.
