PAWSD continues to battle water loss problem

In May 2013, the percentage of treated water lost by the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District increased to 35 percent. The 12-month running percentage loss for the year is 27.6 percent.

In May, 52.124 million gallons of water was produced. Of that amount, 18.187 million gallons of water are unaccounted for. This equates to 586,671 gallons of water lost each day during the month, and 407 gallons of water lost each minute.

According to PAWSD, detection crews have been working in the Hatcher area, as well as down North Pagosa Boulevard, searching through clay soils and rock trenches, evaluating segments of pipelines.
