Pagosa’s local veterans group, Veterans4Veterans of Archuleta County, in collaboration with Charles Parnell from the Durango Disabled American Veterans, has obtained money to provide to hard-pressed and needy veterans, for a limited time and in limited amounts.

Veterans can call (970) 799-VETS (8387), come in person to the open veterans meeting at the Quality Resort each of the next two Tuesdays at 10 a.m., or contact any of the Vets4Vets board members — Dick Fortier, Ken Jones, Roy Melius, Mike Hayward, Sid Creech and Larry Jelinek — when they see them around town.

The funds can be applied to utility bills and/or rent, not to exceed $714. Bring recent past bills as a form of proof, and a copy of any DD-214 other than a dishonorable discharge.

The group would like to help pay needy veterans’ rent by the first of June, but the latest any application for this grant money can be turned in is June 15. If you are a veteran, and you believe you might qualify for a portion of this grant money, make a call, come to a meeting, or contact a board member ASAP.
