School bus evacuated in incident on Put Hill

Mark DeVoti, Superintendent of Archuleta School District, informed the public of a school bus incident this afternoon. "Bus 13 was heading up Put Hill when a heater hose in the rear of the bus broke and put anti-freeze and fumes into the back of the bus cab." DeVoti said, "The students and driver did an excellent job of evacuating the bus just as they have practiced in evacuation drills throughout the year. Fire and ambulance arrived on the scene to check students who had been sitting in the back of the bus. Eventually all students were picked up at the scene by family members or transported home by a substitute bus. We know that a school bus, fire and ambulance along the side of the road can be cause for concern, so we wanted you to know the details. Again, all students are safe and have been released to their families."
