Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association announces fundraiser for archery range

Posted

The Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association recently held a membership and fundraising event at the Archuleta County Fair.

Our goal was to raise $10,000 for our new archery range, which is going to be built near U.S. 160 and Trails Boulevard.

Our president, JoAnn Pogreba-Dykstra, applied for a Colorado Parks and Wildlife grant this past spring and our organization was awarded a conditional $63,000.

That being said, we need to raise $10,000 cash to get the project started, since the grant conditions require us to put money up front for expenses and later be reimbursed. We managed to raise more than $1,300 at the fair, less expenses.

I would like to express my great appreciation to the Pagosa Rotary for allowing us to use their dunk tank to raise funds for our project. We enjoyed having fair participants test their skills at throwing balls at a target, which allowed several club members to enjoy a splash in the tank.

Our tank participants were none other than Pogreba-Dykstra, Community Outreach Chair Chris Boyd, Treasurer and Events Chair Bill McElhinney, and Events Committee Member Sam Johnson.

Our winners for the dunk tank draw were Brulin Archuleta, Warren Brown and Duke Ketchum. They each received a $20 gift certificate from the Ski and Bow Rack.

The Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3)organization that was founded in 2020 by local firearms and archery enthusiasts.

We are always seeking new members who enjoy the shooting sports.

Our mission is “To provide a safe and enjoyable environment to promote the use, training and education for all shooting disciplines in the Pagosa Springs area.”

If you would like to join our organization as a founding member, please email membership@wolfcreekgunandbow.org. If you would like to donate to our organization, by virtue of funds, land or land lease, please contact us at info@wolfcreekgunandbow.org or leave a message at (970) 585-6563.

Donations are tax-deductible. We are still seeking land to build a firearms range in the Pagosa Springs area to promote safe shooting for pistol, rifle and shotgun users/owners.
