Special to The PREVIEW

Although it feels like spring is in the air, it is time for a weekend full of WinterFest activities.

Begin Friday night with Family Game Night at the “Chilly Bowl.” Come explore with your taste buds and judge at our “Anything Goes Chile Contest.”

A variety of restaurants and locals will entice you with their favorite foods and drinks made with chiles. Games for kids of all ages will be played and an obstacle course will be set up for you to test your skills. It’s a night for the whole family to enjoy, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ross Aragon Community Center. Admission for adults is $10, kids 5-12 are $5 and children 4 and under are free. Each entry will receive a keepsake bowl.

The fun continues Saturday morning as the pilots from New Mexico and Colorado launch their balloons in a mass ascension from the downtown area at around 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting).

Carry on with family fun from noon to 2 p.m. with snow painting in the Town Park athletic field, next to the skating rink. Snow painting is $5 per entry and prizes will be awarded for the most creative pieces of work.

After you paint the snow, enjoy our Pagosa Trivia — Bar Hop from 1 to 4 p.m. at participating bars (see the Chamber website or pick up a list of participating bars at the visitor center).

Sunday, watch as the skies fill with color while the balloons ascend from the uptown area around 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting).

At noon, join us for the Penguin Plunge — watch while people raise money for their favorite nonprofit by taking the plunge into the frigid San Juan River.

For more WinterFest activities, see the Pagosa Nordic Club article in The SUN.
