Recovery efforts continue in Pagosa Springs following the October 23-24 flooding.
Town crews are making progress clearing debris, assessing damage, and restoring public spaces. Following are today's key updates.
All roads within town limits are open except sections of North 5th and South 6th streets, which will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Detours are available.
The Colorado Department of Transportation reports that U.S. 160 and newly installed concrete in the downtown construction area did not sustain significant damage. Some work areas will need additional time to dry.
Town Park: The damaged trail section connecting to Centennial Park and the playground will remain closed through winter. Restrooms are also closed.
Mary Fisher Park: Closed for cleanup; reopening anticipated in approximately two weeks.
River Center Park: Closed; cleanup begins next week.
Community Center Trail: Partially open, with additional clearing expected by the end of next week.
Cotton Hole Park: Closed through winter for cleanup and damage assessments.
The town's sewer system has stabilized. Residents and businesses are still encouraged to conserve water and be mindful of usage as the system recovers. Every little bit helps.
FEMA and state partners began a preliminary assessment today to document flood-related infrastructure damage and costs. This is an important step toward determining whether a federal disaster declaration may be requested. Federal assistance has not been approved at this time.
Thank you to our town crews, emergency responders, community partners and residents for your continued patience and support. We're making progress together.
Please respect posted closures and continue using caution near affected areas.
