On Friday, Oct. 13, Riff Raff Brewing Company will host this year’s second annual Pumpkin Contest and Auction to benefit our community’s only animal shelter.

From 3 to 8:30 p.m., pumpkin art masterpieces created by local artists will be displayed throughout Riff Raff Brewing Company, located at 274 Pagosa St. You can view, vote and/or bid on your favorites.

This is a free, fun and family-friendly event, so come get in the Halloween spirit while supporting a great cause.

Professional and experienced painters and artists will submit their artistic pumpkins in two categories: painted and mixed media. They will try to win the votes of the public and the top painted pumpkin and best mixed-media pumpkin winners will receive cash and prizes. It’s just one dollar per vote and all proceeds go toward the care of our animals.

“This event is similar to the popular Festival of Trees, but Halloween style,” said Robson Reyes, executive director of the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs. “We are excited to have more than 20 confirmed artistic pumpkin entries that will be a part of this year’s contest and silent auction. Last year we had some incredible works of art. We look forward to seeing what artists come up with creatively to try to win the votes of the public this year. We hope our community will come out to get in the Halloween spirit on ‘Friday the fur-teenth’ and enjoy browsing the pumpkins ... to support this generous restaurant partner and the animals in our community.”

In addition to voting for your favorite pumpkins, you will have the opportunity to take one (or more) home by bidding on pumpkins in the silent auction. We will be auctioning off all contest pumpkins so you can impress your neighbors (and your Halloween trick-or-treaters) with your new pumpkin masterpieces.

If you are feeling hungry while browsing the works of art, dine in or carry out at Riff Raff Brewing Company on Oct. 13 and a portion of their sales will also support the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs on this event day only.
