San Juan National Forest Supervisor Kara Chadwick is pleased to announce the selection of Josh Peck as the new district ranger overseeing the Pagosa Ranger District.
Peck comes to Colorado from the Flagstaff Ranger District on the Coconino National Forest in Arizona.
Peck spent most of his childhood in Cortez, Colo., where his father also worked for the San Juan National Forest. Growing up, he spent many of his weekends and holidays backpacking, camping, hiking and hunting across the forest. Peck had no plans of following in his father’s footsteps, but a summer opportunity to work for the Forest Service developed into a passion for being a steward of our public lands.
Peck started his career as a seasonal timber marker on the Dolores Ranger District. He attended Colorado State University and graduated with a degree in forestry. After graduation, he moved to the Black Hills National Forest, where he worked as a forester. Since then, he has worked as a timber management administrator on the Brush Creek Hayden Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt and most recently as deputy district ranger on the Flagstaff District of the Coconino National Forest.
“I am very excited and humbled to be able to serve as the ranger for the Pagosa Ranger District,” said Peck. “My family has always been in love with southwest Colorado and the ability to go from a peak to the desert in the span of a few hours. Revisiting some of the hikes that we did as kids is at the top of our list and solidifies the feeling that we are coming home from a long vacation.”
Peck and his wife, Lesley, have two daughters, Lily and Penelope. They enjoy hiking, hunting, climbing 14ers and anything outdoors. Peck is excited to be back home on the San Juan National Forest. Please welcome him and his family to southwest Colorado.
