Rio Grande National Forest to feature 'Ernie Wilkenson – History of a Local Mountain Man' in Forest Specialist Series

Posted

Join the Rio Grande National Forest on Wednesday, Aug. 28, for the August edition of the Forest Specialist Series.

We’re learning about local mountain man, Ernie Wilkinson, and the extraordinary life he led. Wilkinson was an outdoorsman who was a part of the Monte Vista community for decades. He started out trapping for the government, learning taxidermy, and eventually rescuing animals and teaching the survival skills he’d developed over a lifetime.

The program will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. You can join us online or, for the first time ever, in person at the Outcalt Event and Conference at SLV Ski Hi Complex in Monte Vista.

Visit the Rio Grande National Forest website or Facebook page, https://www.fs.usda.gov/riogrande, for event information.

This event is part of the Rio Grande National Forest’s Forest Specialist Series, a monthly online presentation in partnership with the San Juan Mountains Association to share information with our community. We hope you’ll join us to learn more about your local public lands.
