Our Community Eats food pantry was a recipient of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints charitable 250th celebration initiative.
As part of the 250th celebration of our great nation, 250 semi-truck loads of nonperishable food has been delivered to pantries across the United States.
An incredible 40,000 pounds of food was donated and split between the Durango and Our Community Eats food pantries.
The funding for the 250 truck loads of food comes from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fast-offering funds. On the first Sunday of each month, members fast for two consecutive meals and donate the money that would have been spent for the meals to the fast-offering fund. Much of the food is produced and processed at church facilities across the United States.
Additionally, in recognition of her selfless service to the community, Katherine Solbert, executive director of Our Community Eats food pantry, was recognized with the JustServe Hero Award. This award recognizes only one individual/organization each year whose service exemplifies leadership, generosity and commitment to improving the lives of others.
