Special to The PREVIEW

Mountain View Homemakers will meet 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Extension Building at the fairgrounds.

There will be a covered dish luncheon at noon. Immediately following lunch will be a program that is very special to the members, and guests are sure to enjoy it, too.

This is the meeting when checks are given to representatives of each of the non-profit organizations chosen by the members back in May. Until this year, it was possible for Mountain View Homemakers to give checks to as many as eight organizations. On Nov. 14, there will be $500 checks given to 11 organizations, with two other checks donated to other efforts.

This meeting is closest to Thanksgiving and provides a chance to get to know how the money members have worked to raise will be spent in the community. The organizations receiving checks this year are: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice of Mercy, Humane Society, Loaves and Fishes, Pagosa Outreach Connection, Pregnancy Support Center, Pagosa schools, Pagosa Youth Center, Senior Services-Home Delivered Meals, and Veterans for Veterans. Others receiving checks will be the 4-H program and the Ruby Sisson Library.

This is also the time of year when all who can are asked to bring new toiletries, including unused, small-size items they have gathered from hotel stays. The personal care items will be passed along in December to non-profit groups serving women in crisis.

A short business meeting will follow the presentation of checks. The agenda includes recommendation of new officers by the nominating committee, a sign-up sheet for foods to bring for the Christmas meeting, a report about the Holiday Bazaar and a few other topics.

Any woman interested in finding out more about the Mountain View Homemakers organization, and anyone who finds the program of interest, is welcome to attend; there is no need to bring food.

Mountain View Homemakers is a monthly gathering of women who are interested in making the lives of their families and their community more enjoyable. The meetings include lunch and either enlightening speakers or a hands-on community project. There are no dues or membership requirements and every interested woman will be welcomed.
