Special to The PREVIEW

Businesses, groups, nonprofits and others who are interested are invited to adopt a segment of the route for this year’s annual Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration.

The deadline to sign up for a segment has been extended to Friday, Oct. 28.

The Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration is a collaborative community event between the Town of Pagosa Springs and The Pagosa Springs SUN and will be held on Dec. 17 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. along the Riverwalk downtown.

Organizers are currently seeking area nonprofits, businesses, acoustic musicians and anyone else interested in helping the evening come together. There are opportunities for all levels of participation, including performances, volunteering, serving hot chocolate and adopting segments of the route.

Adopting a segment

Organizers are seeking interested businesses, groups, nonprofits, and others to “adopt” designated segments of the path.

This event is not intended to promote commercial activity and we ask there are no sales or fundraising by event participants.

Those that adopt segments will be responsible for the illumination and low-impact decor for their section during the celebration. Musically-themed segments will only be allowed to be acoustical (non-amplified) to help create a more intimate setting and to limit their noise impact on the neighboring segments.

Organizers will work to space the adopted segments sufficiently throughout the course, and will also produce a map of stations to provide and publish well in advance of the event so that participants will receive exposure for their efforts.

Those that adopt segments are encouraged to be creative and have fun helping to create an old-fashioned Christmas experience. Additionally, those that adopt segments are encouraged to consider luminaries, candles in snowball pyramids or their own concept to creatively light “their” section of the pathway, without requiring power sources. Heating sources, like propane fires, are also strongly encouraged.

The route will be along the Riverwalk (between Town Park and Centennial Park) and Mary Fisher Park and the Pagosa Springs Visitor Center, with Hot Springs Boulevard closed to traffic between Hermosa and San Juan streets.
