72nd annual Archuleta County Fair open through Aug. 6

Today marks the opening of the 72nd Archuleta County Fair.
There will be fun afoot with the various things to do. You can come see entertainment that includes music, a BMX stunt team, a magician, a rodeo and, of course, all of the livestock shows. You can get interactive and test your skills with some activities such as painting, a cornhole tournament, a horseshoe tournament and a pie-eating contest.
Some of these events are new and some are a staple of the county fair, like Wild Man Phil, who wows the audience with his many reptiles and arachnids, and the many livestock shows and exhibits that show off the talent and hard work of the 4-H youth.
The evenings will bring live music and dances, and if you are tough enough to wear pink, then you will fit right in at the Friday night rodeo, but come for Saturday night rodeo, too. It will provide lots of exciting entertainment and laughs.
Come early and celebrate the grand opening of the Pagosa rodeo/fairgrounds Saturday at 4 p.m. The Chuckwagon dinner follows at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the event. Then the fair honorees and royalty will be recognized, followed by the Conservationist of the Year presented by the San Juan Conservation District. After the Chuckwagon dinner and events, the Archuleta County 4-H Livestock Auction will get underway with the sale of the livestock.

CPR and first aid classes
CPR and first aid certification classes are offered every other month by the CSU Extension office, generally on the second Monday and Wednesday of each month from 6 to 10 p.m. The cost for the classes is $80 for combined CPR/first aid and $55 for CPR, first aid or recertification.
