Eliseo (Pete) Lucero

Posted

Eliseo (Pete) Lucero was born March 19, 1937, in San Juan County, N.M., to Abran Lucero and Paublita Trujillo Lucero. Pete grew up in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, herding sheep with his dad as they would move from one range to another throughout Colorado and New Mexico.

Pete went to his heavenly home on Oct. 21, 2023, following a short illness and possibly from a broken heart, as he lost the love of his life, Frances, in March 2023 after 65 years of married life.

Pete always had a job to support his family until his retirement. Besides working for a company that made airplane parts, Pete irrigated for farmers and ranchers from Durango to Bayfield and Ignacio to Allison. He was known for his irrigation skills, as well as working with animals.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; son, Jimmy; brothers: John, Celestino and Max; and sisters Elba and Margie.

He is survived by his daughter, Della Emerick; grandsons: Jesse and Al Emerick; and sister Viola Montoya; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

At Pete’s request, there will be no services.
