Longtime Rio Grande National Forest Supervisor Dan Dallas has been promoted to a key position in the Rocky Mountain Region of the Forest Service.

Dallas began a temporary assignment earlier this year as director of renewable resources for the Rocky Mountain Region and continued serving in that capacity after being permanently appointed to the position in July.

Dallas held the top post on the Rio Grande National Forest for 16 years.

“Dan Dallas successfully served the Rio Grande National Forest including navigating several complex issues during his tenure,” said Regional Forester Frank Beum. “His experience will now benefit all forest and grassland units in the Rocky Mountain Region as he takes on this new role.”

Dallas came to the Rio Grande National Forest in 2007 after serving as district ranger on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Elko, Nev., during the post sagebrush rebellion years. Before that, he was a district ranger in Newport, Wash., and Philipsburg, Mont.

He has taken several temporary assignments during his career, including forest supervisor on the Uinta National Forest in Utah and as a national director in the headquarters office in Washington, D.C.

The forest will soon be filling the vacancy left behind Dallas. In the interim, Kris Sexton is serving as acting forest supervisor and Andy Kelher remains at his deputy forest supervisor post.
