Staff Report

Randi Pierce has been named editor for The Pagosa Springs SUN and will assume responsibility for managing day-to-day newsroom activity.

The SUN was recently acquired by O’Rourke Media Group after 20+ years of ownership under Terri House.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Randi as she assumes responsibility for our newsroom here in Pagosa. She brings great experience, energy and passion to this critical role at the paper and having someone local, raised here in Pagosa, is a big deal,” said Jim O’Rourke, CEO/owner of O’Rourke Media Group.

Pierce was raised in the community, in and around The SUN offices. She firmly believes a strong local newspaper helps make a stronger community.

“I began working at The SUN the day after my 14th birthday cleaning the building and working in the mailroom. I moved on to work in the front office, as an advertising assistant and then moved into the editorial department. I’m thrilled for the opportunity to assume the editor’s role where my team and I will continue producing local news and information that matters to our community,” said Pierce.

Pierce graduated from Pagosa Springs High School and obtained a degree in English with an emphasis in mass communications from Fort Lewis College. She served on the college newspaper staff and spent time selling ads, serving as photography and design editor, taking photos and writing stories. Pierce also worked at another newspaper as a photographer while in college.
