The Knights of Columbus Council No. 7560 is hosting its annual Charity Duck Race and Community Picnic Saturday, Aug. 12, in Town Park. The fun starts at 11:30 a.m., with the ducks hitting the water at 3 p.m.
This popular community event offers free food, live music, kid’s games, line dancing and, this year, a chance to win a share of $5,000 in cash prizes in the Duck Race.
Race tickets are only $10 each and may be purchased at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church office, Silver Dollar Liquor Store and on race day at the picnic. Call the parish office at (970) 731-5744 for ticket information. Get your race tickets and enjoy the fun.
The Knights of Columbus Council No. 7560 was formed in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish of Pagosa Springs in 1980. Father John Bowe, C.R., was the parish priest at the time and, with the help of Ruben Marquez and other men of the parish, the council was formed.
Marquez was the first Council grand knight and since then there have been 21 other men who have served in this position. The Knights were formed to serve both their parish and their community.
Each year, the Knights hold two fundraising events –– the Lenten Fish Fry and the Pagosa Springs Duck Race. The Lenten Fish Fry began in 1996 and the Duck Race started in 2001. Revenue from these events go toward funding college scholarships and supporting numerous nonprofits within Pagosa Springs and Colorado. Some of these nonprofits include Aspire, the Aspen House and the Colorado Special Olympics.
