Mike Le Roux is currently the sheriff of Archuleta County, taking office in January of 2023. Although Le Roux’s reading interest generally lies in nonfiction and memoirs (particularly around leadership, military strategy/special forces, law enforcement and endurance athletes/adventurers), he enjoyed this foray into crime fiction with Ron Franscell’s book “Deaf Row.”
Le Roux is a South African-born, U.S. citizen who has lived and worked in the UK, Belfast and extensively throughout Australia. Le Roux has global experience in realms including engineering, endurance athletic events, public speaking and coaching. Although varied, all had one key thread and motive: Whatever Le Roux pursued, it was to intentionally live outside of his comfort zone.
Le Roux notes, “Ron Franscell’s book is set in a quaint, rural mountain town in Colorado, called Midnight, a town very similar in many ways to Pagosa Springs, Creede or South Fork.”
In working with the Sheriff’s Office for almost a decade, in different roles, Le Roux is in a great position to comment and compare the events of the book with the reality of rural Colorado. Le Roux can identify with the motivation and mindsets of the town’s characters, geography and events and is looking forward to discussing that aspect with Franscell.
Tickets to the upcoming Saturday, May 13, Fireside Chat with Franscell and Le Roux (6 p.m. at the Tennyson Building Event Center, 197 Navajo Trail Drive) are available for $40 in advance and $45 at the door. They may be purchased online at pagosalibrary.org or in person at the library.
