Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in-person and Zoom services are on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:30 a.m.

In-person meditation practice is on the second and fourth Sundays at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

This Sunday, the first Sunday of April, begins our celebration of the Earth as green begins to emerge from the soil and buds from the trees, and bluebirds can be seen searching for this year’s nesting place.

Darryl Saffer will bring his short prize-winning film “Pagosa Is My Name” as part of our celebration. This film has been recognized around the world and touched a nerve for the environmental movement.

In Saffer’s own words: “As a wildlife filmmaker, there are times when I want to tell a deeper story, one that is more accurately classified as natural history. This is my interpretation of the area where I live through the eyes of the mountains that surround my home, the San Juan Mountains and in particular, Pagosa Peak.”

The viewing will be followed by a Q-and-A with the filmmaker and invites reflection on a number of critical questions: Where does Pagosa fit into the history of development and where are we now? Can we live with constant expansion of petroleum, consumptive use of water and other natural resources and still retain a healthy community? Should we even try to define what conservation looks like here in southern Colorado?

Come to this service and share your thoughts.

Saffer is a lifelong environmentalist who makes his home here in Pagosa Springs and spends a good portion of his time creating award-winning nature films. Diane Cirksena provides the award-winning narration. This film won 15 awards on the festival circuit in 2022.

Depending on the current COVID recommendations, please be prepared to wear a well-fitting mask while in the building if deemed necessary. Social distancing will be encouraged and, to that end, the maximum capacity of the fellowship has been reduced to 25, a very good reason for arriving a few minutes early.

Our fellowship offers each individual support in our unique spiritual path and an opportunity to participate in positive social and environmental action. We welcome diversity and invite everyone to share in our faith community.

Find us in Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak. Join us. For more information about the fellowship, please see www.pagosauu.org.
